Top 5 reasons you should attend The Art of Placemaking Conference

The Art of Placemaking Conference

Of course, we have a lot more than five reasons you should attend The Art of Placemaking Conference, but this is a good place to start.

  1. If you are an artist, urban planner, city builder, community catalyst, arts administrator or anyone else interested in using art to add vibrancy to community, there is no more important issue being discussed today how do we effectively measure and communicate the impacts of our creative placemaking. The Art of Placemaking Conference is your chance to help shape the conversation.
  2. Meet, learn from and engage some of the sector’s top practitioners and researchers who will be presenting their work at The Art of Placemaking Conference. We’ve planned this event as more of a convening than a large conference with the intent of giving participants the opportunity to have deeper and more impactful conversations.
  3. Experience Providence, the Creative Capital and a city that “gets” creative placemaking.  (At least, that’s what I’ve heard a few highly placed people at the National Endowment for the Arts say on more than one occasion.) In addition to 2 days of great conversation and learning, you will have the opportunity to tour some of the other great arts organizations in town and to learn how they do things. More details on this soon.
  4. Experience a full WaterFire from the inside.  Just take it in as a visitor or join us in creating the artwork that helps transform and rebrand a city. We hate to sound like we’re bragging, but we guarantee you’ll be moved by the experience and you’ll hopefully learn a lot too.
  5. We’re working with Performance Research, Web Metrics Guru, Inc., Brown University and Rhode Island College in designing a few interesting and fun research exercises that you will be able to experiment with at our event so you can take home some new skills and knowledge to your projects and community.

Bonus reason #1: You will meet awesome like minded change agents who are driven to improve the their communities.

Bonus reason #2: It will be fun!

  1. Why is this so expensive?

If you truly want to engage the arts community i would think this would be more affordable–especially in this weak economy where artists are struggling.

    • Chris, thanks for the comment and expressing your concern about cost. We tried to make this event as affordable as possible but I realize that “affordable” is a relative term. We reviewed other nonprofit arts conferences and conventions and priced ours at the very low end. There are real expenses incurred to host an event like this with the quality of presenters who will be participating. It may be a small consolation but we are planning to film all of the sessions and post them on the Internet later so that lessons learned are shared with people who can not attend for whatever reason. Thanks again for your feedback.
